The Arab Republic of Egypt has today officially announced the nomination of Ambassador Moushira Khattab for the post of UNESCO Director General. The UNESCO Executive Board will elect a new Director General in 2017. Ambassador Khattab has a wealth of progressive experience in the fields of international diplomacy, social and human development including children and women’s rights, legal reform, education and human rights advocacy. Her experience includes posts at the UN Headquarters in New York, UNIDO headquarters in Vienna and the OHCHR in Geneva including 10 years as Rapporteur for the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. The nomination was announced in Cairo at the Egyptian Museum on Tuesday 19 July by H.E. Eng. Sherif Ismail the Prime Minister of Egypt and was endorsed by H.E. Sameh Shoukry the Minister of Foreign Affairs several concerned ministries including Culture, Education, Antiquities, Youth & Sport as well as intellectuals and artists.
